Gmail shows "via" next to your name

Your email arrives as "Your Business via some-other-company.com". It looks odd, and to a careful customer, it looks a bit suspicious.

Signs this is happening to you

  • Your name shows with "via" and another company's name.
  • It happens on email from a tool, not from your own mailbox.
  • Customers ask who the other company is.
  • Those same emails land in spam more often.

What does "via" mean in Gmail?

It means the email was sent for you by another service, and that service vouched for it in its own name, not yours. Gmail is being honest with your customer: this came from you, but through someone else.

Is it a problem?

It is a sign that the inbox can't fully tie the email to your business. That makes it more likely to land in spam, and it makes you look less like yourself.

Can it go away?

Yes. Most sending tools can vouch for you in your own name, once they're set up to. Many never are.

What we find that others miss

These are small things. Each one is enough to send your email to spam, or let a fake through.
